Central Wyoming College complies with all US and Wyoming State laws regarding student privacy, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). These laws provide certain rights to students, including but not limited to:
1. The right to inspect and review the student’s educational records upon request within the timeline specified in the associated process for this procedure (link above).
2. The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records that the student believes are inaccurate.
3. The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student’s education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent..
4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by Central Wyoming College to comply with the requirements of FERPA. See the associated process for this procedure for the current contact information for the U.S. Department of Education.
The Chief Student Officer, or designee, may contact parents, legal guardians, faculty, or law enforcement, as deemed necessary, where there is a danger to a student or to others, or when a student is involved in alcohol and/or drug violations on campus.
Directory Information:
Under FERPA, directory information is defined as information within a student's education record that wouldn't generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed.
CWC can disclose directory information without a student's consent, but CWC also:
1. Notifies the public what information is designated as directory information; and
2. Allows students to opt out of such disclosure of the student’s information.
