In recognition of exemplary service to the college, a person who has been a full-time member of the Central Wyoming Faculty for at least ten years may have the title of Professor Emeritus/Emerita conferred by recommendation of the President and a two-thirds majority of the faculty, and approval by the Board of Trustees (Policy Governance Manual IV.C.10.).

The Emeritus/Emerita title involves no duties and provides no stipend; however, retirement regulations permitting, a person who holds the Professor Emeritus/Emerita title shall be eligible for special college assignments, including those with pay. A person who holds the Emeritus/Emerita title is entitled to attend all appropriate faculty assemblies with voice, but without vote, to march in academic processions such as commencements, to receive faculty news publications, to have access to the Library and other College facilities, to receive an identification card which will indicate the individual’s status "Emeritus" or “Emerita”, to be identified in the college catalog and telephone directory, and to receive other courtesies and privileges that may be appropriate.

The following procedure will be followed for nominating Professor Emeritus/Emerita  Candidates to the Board of Trustees.

Definitions:

1.  Eligibility: All members of the CWC staff that meet all of the following qualifications: The candidate must

A.  be eligible to retire under the regulations for the Wyoming Public Employees’ Retirement Fund, or be approved for early retirement consistent with 7.4.5 Early Retirement Incentive Procedure;  

B.  be retired from full-time college employment by December 31 of the year previous to the vote for Professor Emeritus/Emerita;

C.  have been a full-time employee of the College for at least ten years immediately preceding retirement;

D.  have been rated “satisfactory” or higher on his/her evaluation by the candidate’s supervisor at least nine of the last ten final years of service;

E.  must have been a full-time member of the Central Wyoming College Faculty for at least ten years;
 

Finally, each candidate may be considered for this distinction no more than three times.

 

2.  Voting Faculty for Professor Emeritus/Emerita: All benefited employees of the College with institutional rank of Instructor or higher for more than two (2) years, as defined by Procedure 7.8.4 Faculty Ranking, except the President of the College, are Voting Faculty for Professor Emeritus/Emerita.

Step 1:  Eligible Candidates
By January 31 of each year, the President of the College (or designee) will send to the Faculty President:

Step 2:  Recommendations
The Faculty President (or designee) will distribute to the college community the names of those eligible and call on any interested person or group, including the candidate, to submit written comments of support for any candidate.  In addition, the Faculty President will send a request to the President of the Classified Staff Association and to the President of the Professional Staff Association asking both that their membership consider and vote upon a motion of support for each candidate and return the voting result for each candidate to the Faculty President.  This comment period will extend no less than two weeks.  And then, for each candidate, the Faculty President will compile a document that contains the factual vitae, the result of each of the two staff association votes,  and all submitted comments (including the name of the person/group submitting the comment) in support of the candidate.  The Faculty President will make the documents available to the entire college community prior to Step 3 below.


Step 3:  Faculty Election
The Faculty President (or designee) will conduct an election of the Voting Faculty for Professor Emeritus/Emerita that asks the following for each candidate:

The election must ensure that each person eligible to vote votes only once and that the vote is a secret ballot.

The Faculty President must schedule the election  for any five consecutive business days prior to April 1.

The President of Faculty (or designee) will convey to the College President no later than 5:00 p.m. the Monday following the close of the election a list of those candidates that receive recommendations (Yes votes) from 2/3 or more of all Voting Faculty for Professor Emeritus/Emerita. Any blank or non-returned ballot is equivalent to a No vote.

Step 4:  College President Recommendation
The College President will send to the Board of Trustees for consideration at their next regular meeting a list of those candidates received from the Faculty President and for which s/he recommends to the board.  (The College President cannot add names to the list s/he receives from the Faculty President, but may remove names for any candidate the College President chooses not to recommend.)

Step 5:  Board of Trustee Consideration
The Board of Trustees will then act on the names received from the College President. Should any candidate be designated for Professor Emeritus/Emerita Distinction by the Board, the distinction will be conveyed upon the designee at a time and place agreed upon by her/him and the College President.
