SummaryCWC encourages educational advancement of employees whereby benefitted employees (Administrators, Professional and Classified) with an education plan may receive an increase in base salary for one degree earned beyond the minimum required for the employee’s current position. Any increase permitted under this policy is subject to the College having sufficient available funds in the budget. II. Procedure A. New Hires. At hire, a new benefitted employee may receive a base salary adjustment in accordance with this policy upon recommendation of the hiring supervisor and approval by HR under the following conditions: i. The new hire is currently enrolled in a degree program from an regionally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; ii. The new hire anticipates completing coursework and earning a degree within the first year of hire; iii. The degree earned is one degree beyond the minimum required for the position and is related to the position for which the employee is being hired; iv. An education plan is prepared and recommended by the hiring supervisor, and approved by both the appropriate VP and Human Resources; and, v. Any educational advancement pay adjustments for new hires will be paid in accordance with the provisions set forth in paragraph III. B. A current benefitted employee may receive a base salary adjustment in accordance with the following requirements: i. The degree earned must be from a regionally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; ii. The degree earned must be in a discipline directly related to the employee's current position, or if in another discipline, must be deemed beneficial to the institution as determined and recommended by HR and approved by the appropriate VP/President. iii. Eighteen months prior to degree completion, the employee must submit and education plan to his or her immediate supervisor for approval. Once approved, the education plan must be submitted to Human Resources. iv. Within 90 days following degree completion, the employee must have an official transcript, indicating degree completion, sent to Human Resources. iv. An education plan is prepared and recommended by the hiring supervisor, and approved by both the appropriate VP and Human Resources; and, v. Any educational advancement pay adjustments for new hires will be paid in accordance with the provisions set forth in paragraph III. C. With the exception of employee tuition waivers and educational release time as prescribed in CWC Administrative Procedure 7.2.23, salary adjustments for educational advancements are not allowed for activities for which the college has contributed financial assistance (books, materials, travel, fees, meals, supplies). III. Educational Advancement Pay Adjustment Rates. For Staff the base salary adjustment will: A. Be a percentage of the Exempt/Non-Exempt salary schedule Grade 11, 25th percentile in accordance with the following schedule: Associates Degree 6% Bachelor’s Degree 8% Master’s Degree 10% Doctorate Degree 12% B. Become effective with the start of the pay period following receipt by Human Resources of certified, official transcripts confirming degree issuance. C. Any educational advancement increase shall not exceed the maximum of the position’s salary grade.
